Sand Dollars
23 November '09 by SkullNuku, under Random.
You know that story about sand dollars? Where you break them open to reveal five doves that you give to friends to spread peace and good will?
What you’re actually doing is cracking open its skeleton and taking it’s teeth. That totally says peace and good will. Defacing a corpse and stealing bits of bone out of it.
Bitches be crazy.

Aion!
24 September '09 by SkullNuku, under Video Games.

Well, I picked up Aion the day it was released on impulse. I haven’t been following it or involving myself in the hype. Honestly, at first I thought it looked dumb. But I looked at some videos on it’s release date, and changed my mind. Brian and I ran out and got copies as soon as class was over.
First impressions: Metal box. For the non-collector edition. Fancy. I get this thing home and pop it in. Install was fast, patching took a few errors and retries, but was short. Brian had some friends playing on a server, so we tried to get on that one. They warned us there would be a queue, so I was prepared. I was not prepared for this: I couldn’t make an Asmodian on that server. WTF. All Brian’s people were on there as Asmodians. That means we couldn’t play with them. Clearly a choice to balance the races, still, annoying.
In response, I grab a west coast server instead. Kasniel, or something. No queue on this one, and I can make either race. Nice. I make a character promptly. The customization is easy and detailed, the characters look great. I get into the world, and after a laggy cut scene, I begin play. There are quite a few people, but it plays BUTTERY SMOOTH. I have no lag at all 95% of the time. And these are with higher graphics. Even Brian’s laptop is running great! The highest detail is almost as good as LoTRO, but doesn’t bog down the system half as much. Must be their sweet engine or something.
Quests are straightforward, but effective. Playing with friends is a breeze, all the menus and commands are simple, intuitive, and fast. The world is interesting and rich. Play is pretty fun, and the grind isn’t bad yet. I hear that it gets pretty grindy, since it’s Korean, but so far questing is doing the trick. There isn’t really anything I can complain about in this game. It has a very high level of polish, feels totally finished, and the launch has been SUPER smooth. I was kicked off the server once or twice, but not bad at all.
I’m only level 8 now, so I’ll post again as I progress through the game. So far, though, it’s one of the best MMO’s I’ve played.
Still like LoTRO better though, lol.

Chicago Comic Con/Castle
08 August '09 by SkullNuku, under Art, Personal.

Brian and I went to the Chicago Comic Con yesterday. We’re going again tomorrow. Tons of cool stuff and great artists. I bought the Soundwave MP3 player. Haha. It’s great, but I don’t have a mini SD card. I need one to get the music on him.
Have to model an interior space for a class. I have been working on a castle bedroom. (see progress above) Not quite done yet, but it is coming along nicely. I need to Zbrush a few more things and work with the lighting. Brian is working on a Victorian house. It’s looking great too. I am hungry.

Rigging
06 August '09 by SkullNuku, under Art.
Finished rigging my generic character for 3D Animation class. I did my first animation with him, too. I did a simple jump and it turned out looking pretty good. One problem, however, the shoulder control curve causes a strange movement. One shoulder always moves before the other. It looks super-crazy. I plan on working to fix it today.
I have also started a sweet drawing of a Rathalos. The coloring should take me a few more days, but it is coming along nicely.
My Mornio Tamagotchi came in the mail yesterday. It is an adorable bug. Brian got his Gundams today. I accidentally let my bug get stepped on once. But I scared away the stompy foot the other time.
I’m OUT!

Road Trip
03 August '09 by SkullNuku, under Personal.

It was my grandparents’ 60th anniversary and my mom insisted I go to the dinner. So I had to grab Brian and drive 3 hours there and 3 back to eat at the Olive Garden. So that was about 6 or 7 hours on the road in one day. I can’t say it was much fun at all, but we listened to some music and made the best of it.
On the way back, we saw a sign that said “Thank you Jesus and Skim Milk.” I, of course, turned around to take a picture of it. I get that the skim milk is $1.99, but why does it say ‘and’? Overall, a pretty boring day.
I am doomed to give a speech on the making of silly putty today. I am very nervous that I am just going to freak out and accidentally say random embarassing facts. Or replace the word ‘putty’ with ‘penis’… somehow. lolol.
P.S. We also got combos.
